In Tukums Municipality, 21 Child is Awaiting Adoption

Currently, it is possible to adopt 21 children in Tukums Municipality, according to the report from the orphan court of the municipality for 2025, LETA reports.

According to the data from the orphan court, at the end of last year, 177 children from the municipality were in out-of-home care: guardianship was established for 126 children, 41 children were placed in foster families, and ten children were in long-term care institutions.

In 2025, the orphan court made decisions regarding out-of-home care for 34 children: guardianship was established for 16 children, 11 children were placed in foster families, and seven were provided care in long-term social service institutions.

The municipality has 75 guardians — 34 of whom are grandparents of the children, 22 are other close relatives, and 19 are other individuals. In 2025, 15 people were appointed as guardians for 16 children, while 22 people were relieved of their guardian duties.

There are also 49 foster families operating in Tukums Municipality, 11 specialized crisis foster families, and four specialized foster families for children with disabilities who have been issued a conclusion on the need for special care due to severe functional impairments.

In 2025, the status of foster family was granted to three families, revoked from seven, and annulled for one family. There are three foster families in the municipality that do not have children placed in them, and four families have justified reasons for not accepting children.

According to the orphan court, emergency guardianship was established for two children from Ukraine last year.

Additionally, according to information from the orphan court, there are currently 21 legally free children for adoption in Tukums Municipality, aged between four and 17 years. In 2025, the orphan court made three decisions regarding adoption: one child was previously in a foster family, one was under guardianship, and in one case, a child was adopted by a spouse.
