The number of children available for adoption decreased last year

Last year, the number of children available for adoption in Latvia slightly decreased, according to information from the Child Protection Center.

At the end of 2025, there were 1,000 children available for adoption in Latvia, while a year earlier, at the end of 2024, there were 1,062 such children.

The majority of the children, 523, were aged between 13 and 17 years.

436 children were aged between 4 and 12 years, and another 41 children were under 3 years old.

A child can be adopted if they have lost their parents, if the parents have been deprived of parental rights, or if they have consented to the adoption. A child can be adopted until they reach the age of 18.
