A children's and sports playground is being created in the Riga district of Purvciems for nearly 200,000 euros, the Riga City Council reported.
In March, the creation of a modern recreational area began in the courtyard of the houses at Stirnu Street 53 and 55.
The project is being implemented thanks to a participatory budget project competition organized by the Riga City Council, for which a local resident submitted an application.
Purvciems is one of the most densely populated districts of Riga, where, due to dense construction, there is still a lack of modern and safe places for recreation. Until now, this area had a recreational zone created during the Soviet era, which has worn out, visually degraded, and does not meet safety requirements.
The project provides for the creation of a modern recreational area that meets safety standards, suitable for different age groups, especially for children and youth.
The location of the playground in the courtyard of residential buildings ensures a safe and calm environment without the influence of intense traffic.
The playground is planned to include exercise equipment, swings, a sandbox, a play structure with a slide, and a mini-trampoline. The sports and play areas will have a soft surface to ensure safety and reduce the risk of injuries. A 3×3 basketball court is also planned to be set up.
Benches and bins will be installed in the area.
The design and construction work is being carried out by the company SIA "JLD."
As explained by the Riga City Council, the cost of construction, design, and construction supervision will amount to 130,717 euros, including VAT.
Funding for lighting has also been found for the project. The cost of its installation is 63,939 euros, including VAT.
According to Firmas.lv, SIA "JLD" was registered in 1996. The company's share capital is 16,647 euros and is fully owned by Janis Lasis.
In 2024, the company's turnover amounted to 4.13 million euros, and the profit was 78,200 euros.
