What amount of funding is necessary to bring all the highways of Latvia in order, Martiņš Lazdovskis, Chairman of the Board of "Latvijas valsts ceļi", said on air at TV24.
He noted that this year will be a year of promises and expressed hope that additional funding will also be directed to the roads, writes nra.lv.
Lazdovskis expressed hope that the promises will start to be realized from 2027, however, the currently approved medium-term budget shows that the reduction may be small, but due to the lack of funding from the funds, the volume of work will be 50% less than in the last ten years, and a breakthrough in such conditions is impossible.
According to the head of "Latvijas valsts ceļi", there will be many promises, but during this four-year period, funding for local roads has increased by about ten million euros per year.
"That is, it cannot be said that it is not growing, but our expectations are high. The total deficit of repairs in our road network, assuming that we have the funding and capacity to bring all the roads in order in one year, would amount to four billion euros. It should also be taken into account that this year it is necessary to repair the roads built ten years ago, because you cannot build a road and forget about it for 30 years," Lazdovskis explained.
