The Flu Epidemic in Latvia Has Ended

The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) announced the end of the influenza epidemic in Latvia as of March 31.

According to the monitoring of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) on influenza and acute respiratory infections, the proportion of positive influenza tests at the National Microbiological Reference Laboratory over the past three weeks has been less than 10%.

Since the beginning of February this year, there has been a gradual decrease in the number of patients visiting family doctors with a clinical diagnosis of 'influenza'.

Additionally, information from the laboratory over the past three weeks shows that the proportion of positive samples has been below the epidemic threshold.

The CDC assesses the intensity of the influenza epidemic this season as high.

The spread of influenza began earlier than usual and exceeded the peak levels of previous seasons.

The influenza epidemic lasted for 17 weeks. In comparison, the epidemic lasted for 19 weeks in the 2024-2025 season and 15 weeks in the 2023-2024 season.

As in previous years, the highest number of influenza cases was among children under 14 years old.
