A video recording of a joint prayer of Muslims on the occasion of the end of Ramadan, which took place on Friday, caused a wide resonance on social networks.
The reaction of many users was similar: there were calls to "prohibit and prevent". However, the comparison of this event to the celebration of May 9 was made only by the former Minister of the Interior and now entrepreneur Linda Murniece.
On the social network X, she wrote: "An unauthorized gathering. Just like the celebration of May 9. It should be prohibited and stopped."

It is inappropriate to compare a peaceful religious prayer with political events on May 9. In Latvia, May 9 is prohibited by law as it is associated with occupation. At the same time, freedom of religion is guaranteed by Article 99 of the Constitution. Prayer is not a rally, but the realization of basic human rights.
Then, by that logic, we should also prohibit the pilgrimage to Aglona, as it also creates inconveniences and blocks roads.
Some believe that this is a manifestation of a foreign ideology, comparing participants to political movements associated with May 9.
Others question the responsibility of politicians for migration and social processes.
There are also practical remarks — for example, is it even possible to prohibit an event taking place on private property?
Opinions are also expressed that freedom of religion is guaranteed in Latvia, and therefore such events are permissible.
