In Latvia, by the end of the driven hunting season for 2025/2026 on February 15, 28,741 noble deer had been harvested, accounting for 81% of the established limit, the State Forest Service (GLS) reported to the LETA agency, writes LETA.

Of the total number of noble deer harvested in this hunting season, 32% were males, 37% were females, and 31% were calves.

The service indicated that in the 2025/2026 hunting season, the most noble deer were harvested in Kurzeme, while the least were in Latgale.

In the Kurzeme forestry district, 12,601 noble deer were harvested, in the Central forestry district — 7,006, in the Vidzeme forestry district — 4,578, in the Southern forestry district — 3,183, and in the Eastern forestry district — 1,373.

Additionally, by the end of the driven hunting season, 22,554 wild boars were harvested.

The service noted that the driven hunting season has ended; however, wild boars, noble deer calves, and male noble deer under two years of age are still allowed to be harvested until the end of the hunting season on March 31.

The State Forest Service (GLS) is a direct subordinate institution under the Ministry of Agriculture. The service oversees compliance with regulations governing forest management, hunting, and nature conservation, as well as fire protection for forests. The service maintains the State Forest Register, which accumulates information about forests, economic activities within them, hunting, and game animals.
