German hunters shot about three thousand wild boars in 2025 that were contaminated with radioactive cesium-137, writes Bild, citing data from the Federal Administrative Office.
"In 2025, a total of 2,927 wild boars (including piglets) shot by hunters were disposed of due to excessive radiation exposure," the article states.
According to the publication, cesium-137 remains in some areas, and the meat of certain boars exceeds the permissible level of 600 becquerels per kilogram.
The cause of this is the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident — radioactive materials were released into the atmosphere and fell as rain in Germany, the newspaper explains.
