The great-great-grandson of Krisjanis Barons has arrived in Latvia for the first time

Nicholas Barons lives in the United States of America, but he came to Latvia to learn more about his family roots. Nicholas is the great-great-grandson of Krisjanis Barons, who is visiting Latvia for the first time, reports the program "900 Seconds" (TV3).

The large cemetery was one of the first places that 34-year-old Nicholas visited upon his arrival in Latvia, as reported by TV3. Here he came to see the grave of his great-great-grandfather, which turned out to be quite thoroughly covered in snow. Nicholas shared that he also has a lot of snow at home this winter — he lives in Columbus, Ohio, which borders Canada.

"In Columbus, where I live, it is cloudy 70% of the time from November to March. Overall, the sun rarely appears for four months, so this is not new to me," said Nicholas Abels Barons.

He has already managed to visit the most popular tourist spots in Riga, as well as the Krisjanis Barons Museum. There he learned more about his famous ancestor and his grandmother Lydia Barone. Nicholas admits that it was his mother who first told him about his outstanding great-great-grandfather.

"My mom knew everything because she and Lydia were very close. When my dad started living with my mom, Lydia was already of age, and my mom took care of her. At that time, Lydia told my mom the family story," Nicholas recounts.

The head of the Krisjanis Barons Museum, Andris Erglis, showed archival photographs depicting Nicholas's grandmother Lydia during her visit to the museum. The grandchildren of Father Dain are quite frequent visitors to the museum, the director explains.

Nicholas also had the opportunity to meet other descendants of Barons.

Nicholas has visited Chile several times — it is his mother's country of origin. There he visited relatives on his mother's side. Now he is glad that he was able to meet relatives in Latvia as well. Nicholas is already talking about a possible return visit to Latvia.
