Over -30 Degrees! Frost Hits Latvia

Today in Liepaja, the thermometer dropped to -24.4 degrees, in Rucava to -25.7 degrees, and at the meteorological observation station 'Jelgava', located in Stalgene, the frost reached -30.3 degrees.

On Sunday morning, new records for minimum air temperature for February 15 were recorded at meteorological observation stations in Liepaja, Rucava, and Stalgene, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

In Liepaja, the thermometer dropped to -24.4 degrees, in Rucava to -25.7 degrees, and at the meteorological observation station 'Jelgava', located in Stalgene, the frost reached -30.3 degrees.

The national record for cold on February 15 is -32.3 degrees, recorded in 1979 in Zosena. At nine o'clock in the morning, the air temperature ranged from -14.7 degrees in Daugavgriva and -15.8 degrees in Liepaja port to -28.2 degrees in Stalgene.

In Riga, the air temperature on Sunday morning ranged from -18 degrees in the city center to -25 degrees at the airport. According to meteorologists' forecasts, cloud cover will increase in many regions of the country on the night of Monday, which will reduce the frost; however, in some places with clear skies, mainly in southern Latvia, the air temperature will drop to -25...-30 degrees.
