Historian and political scientist Karlis Dauksts unexpectedly sharply criticized former Minister of Defense Andris Sprudze in an interview with nra.lv. He stated that he once did not allow the defense of his former student's doctoral dissertation due to unreliable information in the work.
In an interview with nra.lv, historian and political scientist Karlis Dauksts not only commented on security issues and the situation with drones in Latvia but also sharply criticized former Minister of Defense Andris Sprudze.
Dauksts revealed that Sprudze once wrote his doctoral dissertation in political science under him.
“I do not believe my former student Andris Sprudze, who wrote his doctoral dissertation in political science under me,” the political scientist stated.
According to Dauksts, he refused to allow the work to be defended. The reason, as the political scientist claims, was problems with the credibility of the information presented.
“In a dissertation, one can make mistakes, propose unprovable ideas and concepts, but one cannot lie,” Dauksts said.
He added that after this, Sprudze went to Poland, where he later defended the same dissertation.
“Then he went to Poland, married the daughter of the rector of Jagiellonian University, and there, in Poland, defended the same dissertation,” Dauksts claims.
These statements came against the backdrop of an ongoing political crisis following Sprudze's resignation as Minister of Defense.
Dauksts also criticized the state's response to drone incidents in Latgale and spoke about the need for stricter protection of Latvia's airspace.
The interview has already sparked discussion on social media due to the unusually harsh public assessment of the former minister by the well-known political scientist and educator.
Dauksts's statements have become one of the most severe public criticisms of Andris Sprudze following his departure from the position of Minister of Defense.
