Today in Latvia, the session of state verification works for primary school graduates begins. The first centralized exam for ninth graders is in the Latvian language.

In Latvia, the examination period for 9th grade students is starting. The first test for primary school graduates will be the centralized exam in the Latvian language.

This academic year, ninth graders will have to take two mandatory centralized exams — in the Latvian language and mathematics. There is no longer a separate exam for a foreign language. Instead, students completed a monitoring task in April for English, German, or French, which included written and oral components.

To pass the centralized exam, students must score at least 15% of the maximum points. There is no minimum threshold for the monitoring task.

In light of recent events concerning threats in airspace and overall geopolitical tension, schools have received additional instructions this year on actions in emergency situations.

The State Education Development Agency, together with the Ministry of Education and Science, has prepared recommendations for educational institutions on actions in the event of local and national threats.

The instructions were sent to schools at the end of last week.

In fact, the education system is currently preparing not only for exams but also for possible emergencies. Authorities emphasize that a unified action algorithm will help schools respond more quickly in emergency situations.

At the same time, decisions regarding the operational format of specific schools, if the situation affects a particular municipality, will be made by local authorities.

Certificates of completion of primary school are planned to be issued starting June 26. For students who will take exams at additional times for valid reasons, the issuance of documents will begin on June 30.

For thousands of students across the country, the coming weeks will be one of the most intense phases of the academic year.
