58-year-old Zigmunds shared that he had worked as a translator from Russian for a long time, but now he was forced to look for a job again - and finding one in Latvia is practically impossible.

“I am a representative of an extinct profession, I fear being left on the street in winter,” Zigmunds told the portal La.lv. Here is Zigmund's story:

I am 58 years old, and I have been trying to find a job for three months, and it feels like I am not a human. If I even manage to get to an interview, I feel like I am not at an interview but in court — like a defendant, and even worse, because a defendant is given the last word, but I am not. By diploma, I am a translator from English. To be precise, I was — this is already an extinct profession. I also worked as a translator from Russian in court. Now I am looking for ‘any office job that I could fit into.’ I am interested in computers, documents, and information.

Questions about previous employment or health status, then evasiveness and outright lies from the employer with answers that they will still listen to other candidates, and I already understand — it’s all over. After the summer, I was still moving with crutches, but that’s just for safety, soon I will be able to give them up.

I fear that I will no longer find a job in my specialty. I could work in other jobs on the computer. Today I learned that the housing situation is also starting to wobble. Just like many — debts from quick loans. While there was a salary, they could be paid off, and now I don’t know what will happen next.

A few letters have come. I don’t know what will happen in the coming days. I have contacted social services in case I need their help. I have no close ones to move in with, I fear being left on the street in winter. Perhaps I am fearing without reason, but this new year is not at all what I imagined. Right now, I need someone who will hear me and give me a chance,” Zigmunds candidly asks.

The story shocked social media. Many Latvians verbally supported Zigmunds. But so far, no one has offered him the most important thing - a job.
