The State Border Guard has begun recruitment for the special operations unit 'Sigma' — one of the most prepared and closed units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Candidates will undergo a strict selection process, including physical standards and psychological assessment.
The State Border Guard invites citizens of Latvia to apply for service in the special operations unit 'Sigma'. This is the most prepared unit of the Aviation and Special Operations Department, whose personnel participate in tasks of increased complexity and risk.
Candidates are subject to strict requirements. It is necessary to have Latvian citizenship, possess the state language at a high level, meet health and psychological suitability requirements, and have at least a secondary education.
Having a professional or higher education will be an advantage.
The age of candidates should generally not exceed 30 years. For servicemen of the National Armed Forces and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs institutions, the upper limit is raised to 35 years.
Particular attention is paid to physical fitness.
Candidates will have to undergo a series of tests, including pull-ups, push-ups, a 100-meter run, shuttle run, a 3000-meter cross-country run, and abdominal exercises. For each standard, it is necessary to score at least five points.
In addition, it will be required to swim at least 400 meters in 12 minutes, complete the Cooper test, and demonstrate the ability to bench press a weight comparable to their own body mass.
What is important to know: the selection for 'Sigma' is significantly stricter than the standard requirements for most positions in state law enforcement agencies. In addition to physical training, candidates undergo a comprehensive psychological assessment.
The border guard notes that the unit specializes in conducting special operations, which include special tactical actions in conditions of increased risk to the lives and health of personnel. Special weapons, equipment, and gear are used to carry out such tasks, and personnel undergo additional training.
Those wishing to participate in the selection must send an application by email to '[email protected]', providing their personal details, information about their current or previous place of work, position held, professional experience, and contact information.
Recruitment for 'Sigma' is taking place against the backdrop of increasing attention to security issues and strengthening the capabilities of Latvian law enforcement agencies.
