Iran struck American military facilities in several Middle Eastern countries following new US attacks on Iranian targets. Facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait were hit, and fears of further escalation of the conflict have intensified in the region.
A new escalation of the confrontation between Iran and the US has occurred in the Middle East. On Thursday, Iranian military forces launched missiles and drones at American military facilities in the region in response to strikes carried out by US armed forces the day before.
According to Iranian media, one of the targets of the attack in Bahrain was the headquarters of the US Navy's 5th Fleet and the airbase located there.
As a result of the work of air defense systems over the capital city of Manama and neighboring areas, drones were shot down. Debris damaged buildings and vehicles. Local authorities reported the injury of an 11-year-old girl.
Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace to civilian aviation. The country's authorities stated that air defense systems intercepted targets heading towards two military airbases.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also reported the launch of ballistic missiles at an American command center in Jordan.
At the same time, reports emerged of new US strikes on targets within Iran.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that American forces began additional operations as part of self-defense. Following this, Iranian state media reported explosions in the area of the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports of explosions came from the port city of Bandar Abbas, from Qeshm Island, as well as from several settlements in the south of the country.
What is important to know: The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important transport corridors for global energy. A significant portion of the world's oil and liquefied gas exports passes through it, so any military escalation in this area is closely monitored by global markets.
The current exchange of strikes occurred despite a ceasefire that has been in effect since April and attempts at diplomatic resolution.
The day before, US President Donald Trump criticized Iran again for delaying negotiations and warned of possible new actions from Washington.
So far, neither side has expressed readiness for de-escalation, and the events indicate a sharp increase in tension in the region after several months of relative calm.
