After the tragic fire in the village of Krustkalni, which resulted in the deaths of two children, the investigation is still ongoing, and answers regarding the causes of the incident are still awaited. Meanwhile, the affected residents are receiving temporary housing and support from the municipality, while medics continue to fight for the health of the injured, reports TV3 News.
In the apartment building of the village of Krustkalni, where two children died last Friday morning, flowers have been laid and candles lit today — a quiet tribute to the victims from local residents. The State Police have not yet put forward specific versions regarding the cause of the fire, and clarity may only emerge after the results of the examinations are received.
"A pre-trial criminal process is underway, an investigation is being conducted, the procedural supervisor has already gathered initial materials, necessary examinations have been appointed, and it is currently difficult to predict when the experts' conclusions will be obtained so that we can talk about the cause of the fire and the source of ignition," explained State Police representative Maris Khmelnytskis.
After an inspection of the building's technical condition conducted by construction inspection experts, residents of the affected building were allowed to briefly return to their apartments to collect essential items. The management company "Jaunlazdu mājas" LLC Fortium.lv temporarily accommodated 29 people whose apartments were affected by the fire in other properties, including neighboring houses.
Residents also sought help from the Kekava municipality. Basic household items were needed — beds, bedding, towels — as well as psychological support. This support was provided not only to the residents of the building but also to the relatives of the family who lost two children in the tragedy.
"According to information provided by social service workers, after the initial shock passes, people seek help. Applications for crisis situation benefits, which are provided for in our municipal regulations, are being submitted," said Deputy Chairman of the Kekava municipality council Aigars Vitols.
Meanwhile, medics continue to care for the woman injured in the fire — the mother of the two deceased children. Her third child — a four-year-old girl — is also in the children's clinical hospital.
