LLC "Norma-A" (brand "Ecolines") is closing its commercial services on the Rezekne-Daugavpils route section, the company informed the LETA agency.
Starting today, the Rezekne-Daugavpils route will be closed, departing from Rezekne at 12:40 and from Daugavpils at 10:30. The Ludza-Rezekne-Daugavpils route will be closed on the Rezekne-Daugavpils section, while the Ludza-Rezekne-Ludza connection will be maintained.
At the same time, from January 20, commercial flights on the Riga-Ventspils route will be closed, departing from Riga at 9:00 and 19:10, and from Ventspils at 8:00 and 14:30.
Representatives of "Ecolines" stated that the main reasons for the decision to discontinue these services are the long-standing indecisiveness of the government and the lack of a clear strategy for the development of commercial transportation in Latvia.
Commercial transportation operates alongside state-subsidized services, with schedules often overlapping, creating unequal conditions.
Moreover, there has been no mechanism for compensating commercial services for passengers who are entitled to discounts or free travel for over four years. This has led to losses for carriers.
At the same time, "Ecolines" will continue commercial transportation on the Riga-Rezekne, Riga-Ludza, Riga-Balvi/Ziguri/Baltinava, and Riga-Ventspils routes.
