Almost a third (28%) of residents of Latvia aged 18 to 65 faced discrimination in the past year. Most often, survey participants experience discrimination in situations related to receiving services — this happened to one in ten respondents, reports the program "900 Seconds" (TV3).
When respondents were asked to specify in which situations they personally faced discrimination directed against them in the past 12 months, 10% answered that it occurred when receiving various services. 8% reported discrimination while performing work duties (from clients, colleagues, and others), 7% — on the street or in urban environments, and another 7% — when applying for a job or during the job search process.
Respondents less frequently indicated that they faced discrimination in the family (2%) or in educational institutions (2%).
1% of those surveyed pointed to other situations in which they felt discrimination.
At the same time, the majority (65%) of respondents noted that they had not encountered discrimination directed against them in the past 12 months.
7% of residents did not provide a specific answer to this question.
