Municipal services in Riga are preparing to deal with the aftermath of the expected storm, reported Riga City Council representative Mārtiņš Vilemnsons.

As reported by bb.lv, according to meteorologists' forecasts, a storm will begin in Riga on Saturday afternoon and will last until mid-Sunday.

To protect themselves and their loved ones, as well as to avoid hindering rescuers in dealing with the aftermath of the storm, the Riga municipality urges residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, and especially to refrain from visiting city parks, cemeteries, recreational areas, and children's playgrounds, as both trees and their branches may break.

In dealing with the aftermath of the storm, representatives of municipal services will join the State Fire and Rescue Service — they will clear park paths and other areas of fallen trees, eliminate damage to public transport contact networks, and carry out other necessary work, such as monitoring water level fluctuations, said Vilemnsons.

If weather conditions lead to destruction that threatens the health and lives of people, communications, or public transport movement, residents are asked to call the emergency services at the unified number 112.
