Where Does So Much Aggression in Latvian Children Come From? - Explains Expert

Latvia is experiencing a rapid rise in child aggression — it is becoming the norm in schools and kindergartens. The reasons for this phenomenon were discussed on TV24 by the head of the Latvian Child Support Foundation and radio host Kaspars Markševics.

Most parents are forced to spend a lot of time at work. They come home tired and emotionally drained, so they cannot give their children the attention they need. The lack of communication and emotional support leads to children accumulating internal tension, which manifests as aggression. "We are trying to survive; we don’t have time to spend quality time with our children. The reason lies in the situation we see: we do not have very decent pay, we live from paycheck to paycheck, and the bills are quite large," explained Markševics.

Markševics noted that financial pressure plays a huge role. Many families can barely make ends meet, worrying about bills and instability. In such situations, it is difficult for parents to maintain emotional calm and create a peaceful, supportive environment for their children.

According to Markševics, part of society lives relatively well and does not notice the real difficulties of others. However, when talking to residents of the regions, he sees that many cannot even afford to attend cultural events, let alone additional opportunities for children. This inequality only increases tension in families.
