Riga continues to update public transport stops: by the end of the year and the beginning of 2026, it is planned to install 38 new pavilions of a unified design, and the city intends to replace a total of 500 canopies with modern structures.
Continuing the installation of new public transport pavilions of a unified design, Riga plans to install 38 new canopies by the end of this year and the beginning of 2026, the Riga City Council reported.
In the coming years, the city plans to replace existing canopies with more convenient ones that meet modern requirements. In total, the municipality intends to set up 500 new pavilions.
The first batch included 65 canopies, of which 50 have already been installed, while the remaining ones were handed over to Rīgas satiksme for the reconstruction project of tram line No. 7. Another part was kept in reserve for future construction of new stops.
In the autumn, another 60 pavilions for bus stops arrived, and by the end of this year and mid-January next year, 38 pavilions are planned to be installed at 32 stops. They are primarily placed where the old ones have been dismantled, as the previous contractor's contract has ended and the structures have reached the end of their service life. The new canopies are equipped with built-in lighting elements that provide an even level of light. The wiring is concealed within the structure. The roof offers protection from precipitation and sunlight, while tinted glass panels block over 99% of ultraviolet radiation.
The new pavilions feature one bench, and there is space for wheelchairs and strollers. Each pavilion is designed to accommodate an electronic display showing the arrival times of transport. At stops with high passenger traffic, four-section canopies with standing places are installed.
The cost of manufacturing one canopy ranges from 6,073 to 8,730 euros excluding VAT, while the installation of one canopy costs 8,611 euros. The manufacturer is SIA Palami, and the installer is SIA Ļ CO.
