The opposition parties of the Saeima have initiated the introduction of mandatory consultations before an abortion is performed. These consultations should involve both the woman wishing to terminate her pregnancy and the potential father of the child. What is the public opinion on this issue was investigated by the TV3 program "900 seconds."
Opposition parties are proposing to introduce mandatory consultations before terminating a pregnancy in Latvia, which could also involve the father of the child, and if the patient is under 16 years old, her parents or guardians.
About two-fifths, or 38%, of residents of Latvia aged 18 to 65 indicated that they support the introduction of mandatory consultations before abortion. Of these, 15% answered with a definite "yes," and 23% said "rather yes."
At the same time, just over two-fifths, or 43% of residents, indicated that they do not support the introduction of such mandatory consultations in Latvia.
Almost one-fifth, or 19% of respondents, did not express a specific opinion on this issue.
