In order to enhance the safety of border crossings and prevent queues, starting today, October 15, crossing the Latvian-Russian and Latvian-Belarusian borders in Grebnevo, Terekhovo, and Paternieki is only possible with prior registration in the electronic queue booking system, reports the Road Transport Administration, writes Diena.
With the introduction of a new queue booking system in Latvia, this procedure for crossing the eastern border will be implemented in all three Baltic countries. Vehicles can be registered in the electronic queue for crossing the border after October 15 on the websites www.lvborder.lv and www.lvrobeza.lv.
On the morning of October 14, 3,041 vehicles were already registered to cross the border, including 933 in Grebnevo, 790 in Paternieki, and 1,318 in Terekhovo.
The new procedure stipulates that all motorized vehicles crossing the eastern border must be registered remotely using a specially designed electronic service, similar to the one already in place in Estonia and Lithuania.
Starting from October 15, vehicles without registration will no longer be able to cross the eastern border of the Republic of Latvia - this means that crossing the border in a live queue will no longer be possible. Registration in the system will allow the driver to choose a specific time slot (1 hour) for entering the corresponding border control point up to 30 days before the planned border crossing.
Pre-registration will include queue registration, joining it, and a simplified calculation based on the average processing time for one vehicle at the checkpoint. The queue number for crossing the border in the selected time slot will be assigned to the driver after payment confirmation is received in the system. Registration is also possible shortly before arriving at the border point, however, early registration provides advantages.
