From today, traffic on the Zemgale Bridge in Riga must be organized differently

Starting today, traffic is planned to be opened on the newly constructed lanes on the Zemgale Bridge in Riga, the Riga City Council reported to the LETA agency.

Last night, traffic in the direction from the center to Purvciems was redirected to the right side of the bridge. Starting from October 10, traffic in the direction from Purvciems to the center will be organized in the middle part of the bridge.

As previously reported, the reconstruction of the Zemgale Bridge began in November last year.

It was planned that the overall reconstruction of the bridge would cost up to 24.2 million euros. Of this amount, the co-financing from the municipality will be 3.6 million euros. The Riga City Council also decided to take a loan of 20.5 million euros for the reconstruction of the bridge.

The bridge may be updated by the fall of 2026. After the reconstruction, accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with mobility impairments will be significantly improved.
