The plot of the new film unfolds through three generations of a family.
Legendary Hollywood director Oliver Stone is returning to work after a long hiatus, starting the filming of the drama "White Lies," starring Josh Hartnett and previously confirmed Leila George. They will be joined by Michael Douglas, Willem Dafoe, Ellen Barkin, Homer Grier, and Yvonne Chapman.
"Working with the actors feels like a pleasure from start to finish," Stone said in a statement, "and the Italian crew has been the warmest of all I've worked with. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity."
"White Lies" marks a return to the signature style of the Oscar-winning filmmaker, but promises to be a departure from his usual political thrillers and biopics. This intimate and provocative drama explores the nature of family, loss, pain, and how love changes form throughout life.
The plot unfolds through three generations of a family. At the center of the story is Jack Freeman (Josh Hartnett), a child who experiences his parents' divorce and repeats their mistakes in his own marriage. Feeling cornered, he runs away and embarks on a hedonistic journey, only to realize he is even more lost. A meeting with a woman whose life is the complete opposite of his own sets Jack on an unexpected path to self-discovery.
Fernando Sulichin, representing the New Element Media label, commented on the start of filming, noting the symbolism of the casting: "We are incredibly proud of what Oliver, his actors, and his team have achieved. It was exciting to reunite Oliver with Willem and Michael—two outstanding actors who starred in his iconic films 'Platoon' and 'Wall Street,' respectively—and to see him work with Ellen, whom he has known and admired for many years. A special joy is watching Oliver collaborate for the first time with the incredibly talented Homer and Yvonne."
In 2017, the first part of the new documentary film by American director Oliver Stone, "The Putin Interview," premiered in Russia.
