Internet addiction causes increased daytime sleepiness.

Excessive internet use may be linked to increased daytime sleepiness. This conclusion was reached by scientists whose research was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry.

The study involved 1,587 students. Participants filled out questionnaires assessing their level of internet addiction, sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, and symptoms of depression. The analysis showed that the higher the internet dependency, the worse the sleep quality, and the more pronounced the daytime sleepiness.

A key factor was found to be the disrupted sleep structure. This partially explains why active internet use is associated with fatigue and reduced alertness. Additionally, it was discovered that symptoms of depression amplify this effect, making the connection between internet addiction and sleep problems more pronounced.

The authors emphasize that this is a complex mechanism in which psychological state and daily habits reinforce each other's influence. In their opinion, controlling the time spent online and paying attention to sleep quality may help reduce daytime sleepiness and improve overall well-being.
