Nutrients: vitamin D3 deficiency increases the risk of brain diseases.

Vitamin D3 deficiency may accelerate cell aging and increase the risk of brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. This is stated in a review by Polish researchers from the Medical University of Bialystok, published in the journal Nutrients.

The scientists note that the active form of vitamin D3 affects the functioning of genes responsible for antioxidant protection and DNA repair, reduces inflammation, and helps neurons form new connections. Clinical data show that adequate levels of vitamin D are associated with improved memory and cognitive functions, as well as slowing down neurodegenerative processes.

According to the authors, maintaining D3 levels can be achieved through moderate sun exposure and balanced supplemental therapy; however, excessive intake is dangerous due to the risk of hypercalcemia. The researchers believe that vitamin D3 could become an inexpensive and safe tool for preventing age-related changes in the brain.
