A passionate love was followed by a scandalous divorce.
Angelina Jolie revealed new details about her divorce from Brad Pitt in response to his lawsuit seeking access to her personal messages in the Château Miraval winery case. The 50-year-old actress also demanded $33,000 from her ex-husband to cover legal expenses she incurred while responding to his petition.
"The events that led to the necessity of parting with my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children," Jolie's lawsuit is quoted by Page Six. The actress emphasized that by filing for divorce, she left Pitt in control and with the right to live in their Los Angeles home and the Miraval estate without any compensation. This, she said, was meant to help him cope with a "difficult and traumatic period" more easily.
Angelina also stated that after the divorce, neither she nor their children visited the estate anymore, as the place was associated with "painful memories that affected their separation."
In her statement, Jolie explained that since all her savings were invested in Miraval and she did not ask Brad for "alimony or any financial support for herself," she needed the money. The only option, according to the actress, was to sell her share in the winery. "I was also very concerned about the health of our children, and therefore I gave up work for about two years to focus on taking care of them," she added.
Angelina emphasized that in 2017, she even offered Pitt to buy her share in the estate, noting that negotiations were complicated due to the "deep emotional ties" to their family home: "Miraval was the center of our lives. That's where we got married, where I carried and raised our children. Such a sudden break from the home was a heavy ordeal for all of us."
In conclusion, she demanded $33,000 from Brad to cover legal expenses, reminding him that she had repeatedly asked him to withdraw the petition and warned that she would need compensation for attorney fees.
