On June 1, the premiere of the song and music video "We Are Not Numbers" took place on the YouTube platform and social media - a poignant and socially relevant work by Latvian multimedia musician Horens Stalbe and 18-year-old performer Anna.
The new composition sounds like a musical manifesto of a generation living in a world of constant evaluations, rankings, comparisons, and expectations. The project raises an issue that is becoming increasingly relevant in many countries, including Latvia: the moment when grades and achievements gradually begin to mean more than the individual themselves, and the right of a young person to make mistakes, find themselves, and develop is gradually put at risk.
The main idea of the project "We Are Not Numbers" is to remind that a person cannot be reduced to a grade, ranking, or average score. Behind every result are emotions, fears, dreams, talent, and personal stories. The music video is executed in an artistic black-and-white aesthetic, where individual symbols and visual details are highlighted with color accents. This artistic technique creates a contrast between the external "system" and the inner world of a person, emphasizing the emotional vulnerability of young people and their need to be heard.
"We Are Not Numbers" is not just a song about school or grades. It is a story about self-worth, emotional burnout, societal pressure, and the desire of a new generation to maintain their individuality in a world where people are increasingly being pushed to fit certain criteria and standards.
"Today, young people start to feel too early that their value is determined by grades, results, and the expectations of those around them. We wanted to create a work that reminds: a person is not statistics and not a set of numbers. It is very important for a teenager to feel their right to make mistakes, seek their own path, be different from others, and be heard," says Horens Stalbe.
