The government supported the decision to allocate an additional €3.581 million for the organization of one major event, as well as for the filming of foreign films in Latvia.
According to the Ministry of Economics, during the third round of project selection conducted by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) from December 15, 2025, to January 30, 2026, 13 applications were received for the implementation of projects for the filming of foreign films and one application for holding a major event.
Of all the submitted applications, 13 met the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers. However, due to limited funding, 11 projects were approved for a total amount of €3.401 million.
As part of the third stage of selection, an additional €2.67 million is needed in 2026, taking into account the available annual budget of LIAA for the film industry, which amounts to €731,492.
The Ministry of Economics emphasized that the implementation of the approved projects requires permission to undertake additional long-term commitments from the state budget. According to the law "On the State Budget for 2026 and the Budget Framework for 2026–2028," it is planned to allocate €2.67 million in 2026 and €911,669 in 2027.
The additional funding will provide state co-financing for both the organization of a major international event and for attracting foreign filmmakers to Latvia.
