The "Minions" franchise is preparing for a new stage — Illumination studio will present a fresh animated film titled "Minions and Monsters," and its world premiere will take place ahead of the wide release.
The film will open one of the most prestigious animation forums in the world — the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which will take place in June 2026. It is there that on June 21, audiences will see for the first time the new project by Pierre Coffin, one of the main creators of the entire "Despicable Me" universe. Interestingly, the premiere at the festival will take place almost two weeks before the film's release in theaters, which is not often the case for major studio releases. The film will be released in wide release on July 1, 2026.
In the story, the minions once again find themselves at the center of large-scale events. This time they attempt to conquer Hollywood and unexpectedly become movie stars. However, their rapid success quickly spirals out of control: a series of reckless decisions leads to the heroes losing everything, and then accidentally releasing dangerous creatures into the world. As a result, the usual chaos of the minions turns into a global threat that they must deal with themselves.
The project will be the third full-length film about the minions and simultaneously another chapter in the expanded "Despicable Me" universe, which has existed for over ten years. The screenplay was worked on by Pierre Coffin and Brian Lynch, and the producer was Illumination head Chris Meledandri.
The creators also assembled a notable voice cast: among the participants are Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, and Trey Parker. Coffin himself traditionally voices the minions.
