The shooting of the new project by Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev — the film "Minotaur" — has been completed. The official end of the production phase is confirmed by an exclusive photo from the set in Latvia, provided by one of the film's producers.
Initially, it was reported that the director's next film would be a project titled "Jupiter," but work on it was postponed. As a result, Zvyagintsev focused on creating "Minotaur," the main production phase of which took place in the autumn months and was completed a few weeks ago.
The film is the sixth feature by the director following the drama "Loveless" (2017), which received wide international acclaim. The new film is described as a political parable: at the center of the plot is Russian entrepreneur Gleb, who, against the backdrop of the need to lay off employees, learns of his wife's infidelity. It is noted that the film genre combines elements of a crime thriller and tragedy.
Given Zvyagintsev's reputation and his long-standing collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival, it is expected that the world premiere of "Minotaur" may take place in the Cannes 2026 program.
The director's return to work is particularly significant after his severe illness. In 2021, Andrei Zvyagintsev faced serious complications after receiving one of the Western COVID-19 vaccines, spending 11 months in the hospital, including a period of medically induced coma with 92 percent lung damage; however, he subsequently made a full recovery.
