Lazar, the dog believed to be the oldest in the world, has died in France

In France, a toy spaniel named Lazar has died at the age of 30, who could be recognized as the oldest dog in the world. The story of the unusual long-lived dog touched thousands of people after his age was confirmed in two official registries. This was reported by AFP, citing Lazar's owner.

Ann-Sophie Moyon, an employee of an animal protection charity, reported that the long-lived dog was named Lazar. He was born on December 4, 1995. He was a continental toy spaniel "with butterfly ears."

He spent most of his life with the same owner until she passed away, after which he was taken to a shelter. When Moyon and her colleagues learned of Lazar's age, they thought that "Lazar might be the oldest dog in the world."

They checked his birth date in two registries and filled out the paperwork to register him for a possible entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

A month ago, Lazar was adopted from the shelter by 29-year-old Ophelie Budol. Initially, she intended to find a pet for her mother but decided to keep him for herself.

She literally "fell in love with the animal, which was a year older than her."

At 30 years and five months, Lazar wore diapers, could no longer hear or see, and slept almost all day. But Budol stated that he was "delightfully energetic and charming," "our little grandfather."

In the editorial's opinion, Lazar's story reminds us of how strong the bond between a human and an animal can be. Even in old age, the dog managed to bring warmth and joy to his new owners, and his incredible longevity has already become part of a touching story that will be remembered far beyond France.
