Regular food from the table can lead to serious health problems for pets — up to hospitalization.
Veterinary doctor A. Kostikova warned that some common foods can cause severe conditions in pets.
One of the most dangerous consequences of improper feeding she mentioned is acute pancreatitis. This disease requires treatment exclusively in a hospital, so it is not worth the risk of offering animals "human" food.
The specialist highlighted a number of products that should categorically not be given to pets. For example, onions and garlic contain substances that can lead to hemolytic anemia. Grapes and raisins, according to the doctor, can provoke acute kidney failure.
Bones also pose a serious threat. They can easily splinter into sharp fragments that can damage the esophagus, stomach, or intestines. As a result, obstruction and even peritonitis may occur.
The list of prohibited items also includes raw dough, caffeine, nuts, chocolate, avocado, products with the sugar substitute xylitol, and salty foods. All these components are potentially dangerous for the animals' bodies.
In addition to the direct harm to health, feeding from the table fosters undesirable behavior in pets — the habit of begging for food. It can also lead to chronic gastrointestinal diseases, allergic reactions, and weight gain.
