Not just a few hundred years.
All species of turtles (of which there are about 300 known) are distinguished by their extraordinary endurance and longevity. They are very resistant to various infections, quickly recover from injuries, and can go for long periods without food.
One of the record holders for longevity among turtles is Jonathan — a male Seychelles giant tortoise who lives on the island of Saint Helena. It is believed that he was born around 1832.
Scientists believe that some turtles can live up to 200–300 years if they are in favorable conditions.
