Last week, a bear was spotted in the Bilsk parish, and today the regional publication "Ziemeļlatvija" received a report of a predator's appearance in the Karkü parish of the Valka region, writes nasha.lv.
According to eyewitnesses, one family heard the anxious barking of a dog during breakfast. The owners went outside and saw a bear, which, standing on its hind legs, was trying to break into the rabbit cages. Prior to this, the animal had managed to raid the chicken coop.
The fright was serious.
The homeowner began to shout loudly, and fortunately, the bear reacted to the noise and headed towards the neighboring house. "I’ve seen a wild bear for the first time in my life. It’s no more than 30 meters from the house to the rabbit cages. We don’t live that close to the forest.
We wanted to go berry picking with my granddaughter, but now it’s scary to go into the woods if a bear comes right into the yard," said eyewitness Ausma.
As reported by the portal Nasha.lv, recently the predator was spotted in the area of the Sedsk swamp near the observation tower. The report sparked active discussion on social media: some users took the news humorously, while "smart ones" reminded that humans are encroaching on the natural habitat of wild animals.
As reported by Bb.lv, there have been increasing reports of bear sightings in Latvia lately, including near populated areas and popular natural zones. Experts note that such encounters are becoming more regular, so it is important for residents and tourists to know the rules of conduct in case of possible contact with a wild predator.
When encountering a bear, the main thing is to remain calm and not try to approach the animal. It is recommended to slowly and calmly back away, without turning your back on the animal and avoiding sudden movements. You should not run away or try to scare it off with loud shouts.
If the bear notices a person, it is important to stay calm and gradually increase the distance. In a dangerous situation, you should immediately call 112.
