Riga Zoo Invites You to Name the Capybara Babies

For the capybara babies born last autumn, it’s time to learn their names. The Riga Zoo invites you to visit one of the zoo's social media pages and share your recommendations.

In September 2025, a capybara at the Riga Zoo gave birth to a baby, and just a few weeks later, four more joined. In less than a month, the number of capybaras living in the zoo increased from three to eight. The young capybaras have grown well, are healthy and active, and possess distinctive features. So it’s time to give them names.

You can let your imagination run wild or draw inspiration from the capybara's homeland — South America. You can also match names with the three adult capybaras currently living in the zoo — Oscar, Tindra, and Trusis. Five babies need to be named — three boys and two girls. Ideas and suggestions will be accepted in the comments until January 31.
