Since the beginning of the hunting season on April 1, the State Forest Service has recorded 1,083 animals killed on the roads, which is 30 more than in the same period last year.
This year, 112 moose, 126 red deer, 624 roe deer, and 59 wild boars have been registered among them.
The highest number of killed animals in the current hunting season has been recorded in the territories of the Riga district forestry, Southern Latgale, and Zemgale.
The Ministry of Defense reminds that if people or vehicles are injured in a collision with a wild animal, it is necessary to report this to the State Police. Reports of killed game animals can be submitted through the “Mednis” app. This service evaluates the provided information, processes it, and records the fact of the animal's death, as well as makes decisions on further actions.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes that reporting a killed animal in the “Mednis” app does not constitute a traffic accident report to the State Police.
The service also reminds that claiming a killed animal is prohibited — such behavior is considered appropriation of hunting products, which entails a fine.
