A Dog Trainer Explained the Reasons for the Premature Death of Dogs

“Sometimes owners themselves become the reason for the early death of their pets: some continue to feed dogs from the table, some ignore necessary vaccinations, and there are also irresponsible owners who let their dogs walk alone, exposing them to deadly danger,” says dog trainer Vladimir Golubev.

Improper Nutrition

The specialist emphasizes that the health and lifespan of a dog directly depend on its diet.

“If a pet is fed irregularly, receives food from the owners' table, overeats, or conversely, does not get all the necessary nutrients from its food, this will sooner or later lead to health problems,” the expert explains.

The dog trainer advises: the dog's diet should be as close to natural as possible and meet its physiological and energy needs.

Refusal of Vaccination and Prevention

“Ignoring vaccination means exposing the dog to unjustified risk,” the specialist emphasizes. He reminds about the spread of particularly dangerous infections, such as rabies. “It can only be prevented through timely vaccination. It is difficult or impossible to treat a sick pet from certain viruses. Vaccination is the only way to prevent the disease,” he adds.

The dog trainer also highlights the importance of regular visits to the veterinarian. “Even if your dog looks absolutely healthy, it is necessary to show it to a veterinarian at least once a year for a routine check-up. If you have an elderly pet, such check-ups should be done at least twice a year. Any disease is easier to treat in its early stages,” he comments.

Self-Walking

Another threat to the pet is self-walking. “You should not let your dog walk alone. By allowing this, you expose it to unjustified risk. The dog may get hit by a car or train, contract an infection, get injured, fall into a deep pit or well, eat poisoned food, become a victim of dog hunters, or be attacked by other animals, including a pack of stray dogs. It is impossible to predict what will happen to a dog walking alone,” the expert warns.

Improper Care

The dog trainer also identifies another reason for potential health problems – insufficient care or improper handling of the pet. “It is important to timely trim the nails, check the ears and eyes, brush the coat, and monitor the condition of the dog's mouth. At the same time, breed characteristics should be taken into account: different breeds require different procedures, and improper execution can lead to irritations, inflammations, deterioration of coat and skin quality, and other problems,” the specialist reports.
