Chilean researchers have presented an experimental system called Open Cat, capable of interpreting the neural signals of cats.
"During the testing of the system made up of sensors and a microchip, we were able to synthesize and recognize sounds that embodied the thoughts of the animals," said Rodrigo Andres Quevedo Silva, head of the Robotics Association of Chile.
The developers' near-term plans include creating a finished product that will work in conjunction with a mobile phone. They hope that the system will become an accessible tool for pet owners, helping them to better understand their animals.
The technology can be applied not only to cats but also for analyzing the brain activity of horses.
