They are especially loved in France and Brazil, where they have opened their own kennels.
Yakut Laikas are considered both a young and ancient breed: they were officially recognized in 2019, despite having lived in the North since ancient times and helping people transport goods. The dogs are very oriented towards life with humans, and people respond to them in kind.
The first to take on the breed was retiree Vladimir Dyachkov, who gathered the last dogs in the remote villages of Pokhodsk and Russkoye Ustye. The first puppies were brought to Yakutsk in 1998, and local entrepreneur Herman Arbugaev became passionate about Yakut Laikas, opening the first kennel "Arctic Travel." The kennel manager, Lena Sidorova, said that Laikas differ from other sled dog breeds due to their ability to adapt to their person.
"Whatever you want to do, they will do it. Want them to guard? They will guard, although it is not their nature. Want them to hunt or swim, they will do that if you offer it to them. Laikas have high intelligence, they are active, but they do not create problems," she said.
They also have unique fur that can adapt to harsh winters and hot climates, excellent health, and stunning blue eyes that one can get lost in.
These beautiful fluffy dogs have won the love of people around the world, especially in France and Brazil, where they have opened their own kennels. The owner of the Brazilian Laika Royal Kennel, Danieli Danieleski, said that she first saw the dogs in 2015 and immediately fell in love.
"From the very first meeting, I was enchanted by the beauty of these dogs and their special, unique essence. Now I have five dogs, the first was born in Brazil, two came from Yakutia, and one from France," said Danieli.
Currently, there are 7,600 Yakut Laikas in the database, although the breed's stud book began in 1998 with just 11 dogs.
