Nephrologist Natalia Blashchuk stated that more and more people are taking dietary supplements without a doctor's prescription, which can lead to serious health problems.

“Ascorbic acid is one of the most popular vitamins that many take 'for immunity' in high doses, especially during the cold season. However, it is important to maintain moderation with it,” noted the physician.

The doctor explained that taking vitamin C in doses exceeding 500 mg per day increases the likelihood of oxalate formation in the kidneys, which, in turn, raises the risk of developing stones. Consuming more than 2 g per day can lead to acute kidney damage.

Additionally, caution is needed with other vitamins as well. Excess calcium can lead to stone formation, especially if a person drinks little water. The popular vitamin D, when overdosed, can increase calcium levels in the blood and also provoke kidney damage.
