What are the differences between iodine and 'brilliant green'? When should one remedy be used and when the other?
The iodine solution differs from the brilliant green solution ('brilliant green') in that it dries the skin more intensely and can cause burns in larger doses.
Nurse Natalia SVETLOVA explains: “Therefore, iodine should only be used for treating minor cuts and abrasions: this remedy promotes blood flow to the tissues, which accelerates their recovery. To avoid burns, apply iodine to the skin around the wound: this will help prevent the entry of microbes.”
“Brilliant green” is more “gentle” in this regard; it has a less aggressive effect and does not cause serious burns. For example, it is better suited for treating wounds with signs of suppuration.”
