Why might an adult drool in their sleep?

Does this indicate possible health problems?

-- Saliva production during sleep is a natural process. Sometimes this happens because you had a heavy dinner before bed or you were very tired during the day and simply fell into a deep sleep,” explains therapist Anna ZHADETSKAYA. “However, persistent increased salivation (hypersalivation) during sleep may indicate the presence of diseases: neurological disorders that weaken the muscles around the mouth, leading to involuntary saliva production; autoimmune or infectious diseases.

Additionally, this problem can arise due to nasal congestion, a deviated septum, or the presence of parasites. Nighttime saliva production may be triggered by skin conditions such as acne, peeling, and skin irritation. In this case, do not delay a visit to the doctor and consult a therapist. If necessary, you may be referred to a more specialized specialist.
