How Does a Warm Bath Affect the Cardiovascular System?

Researchers report: regular warm baths can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. How often should one take a bath? What are the contraindications?

– Heat promotes the dilation of peripheral vessels, which reduces their resistance and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood, – explains biogerontologist Alexey MOSKALEV. – Japanese researchers have found that regular bathing (at least twice a week) reduces the overall risk of cardiovascular diseases by 28%, coronary heart disease by 35%, and strokes by 46%.

At the same time, there is no data confirming that taking a bath increases the likelihood of sudden cardiac death or subarachnoid hemorrhage (such concerns existed). However, it should be noted that a hot bath can be unsafe, as in some cases it may contribute to the formation of blood clots. Therefore, the water temperature should be warm, avoiding boiling water.
