What is the probability of dying on your birthday? You will be surprised, but this percentage is quite high

The probability that you will leave this world on your birthday can reach nearly 14%. And no one knows why this happens!

William Shakespeare died on his birthday. And he is not the only one who faced such a “coincidence”! There are statistical data confirming that the probability of dying on one’s birthday exceeds the average rates compared to any other day of the year.

In a study published in August 2012, all causes of mortality were analyzed based on the date of birth of the deceased. Initially, this data was collected to study the theory of death postponement, which suggests that a sick person may somehow delay the inevitable to enjoy their birthday.

However, researchers found the opposite. Analyzing mortality data from nearly 2.4 million Swiss individuals aged 1 and older from 1969 to 2008, they revealed that the probability of dying on one’s birthday is 13.8%. For people over 60, this figure increases to 18%!

Undoubtedly, this sample included individuals who took their own lives on their special day. Nevertheless, although this was part of the equation, the main cause of death in the study was chronic cardiovascular diseases, as well as illnesses such as cancer.

Why do people so often die on their birthday?

One theory suggests that on their birthday, people engage in increased physical activity, whether it be dancing, sexual contacts, or just regular parties. The strain on the cardiovascular system may trigger underlying issues and accelerate death-related events due to illness. Another factor in the celebration is alcohol, which can lead to falls or other accidents.

Unfortunately, no one can pinpoint the exact cause of this phenomenon!
