Therapist Timur Asanov noted that there are several houseplants that contribute to health improvement by destroying pathogenic microbes in indoor spaces. They contain essential oils rich in phytoncides—substances capable of exterminating pathogenic microflora.
Eucalyptus, according to the specialist, effectively fights viruses, especially in the case of upper respiratory tract diseases. Miniature citrus trees, such as tangerine, orange, and lemon, wonderfully purify the air from harmful bacteria.
The expert also noted that coniferous plants contain a large amount of essential oils with antiseptic properties. Lavender, which can be placed in the home, not only calms but also helps combat pathogenic microflora in the room.
“Lavender is known as a natural sedative. However, it also contains essential oils with antiseptic properties. Additionally, rosemary, used in cooking, can fight pathogenic microflora in the home. One should not forget about simple onions and garlic, which are also powerful disinfectants and can be grown on a windowsill,” the doctor concluded.
