How to Improve Soil Condition?

There are various methods. Here they are.

Biological method. Contaminated soil is carefully removed from the greenhouse or hotbed and piled up to a height of 1–1.5 m. During this process, it is layered with fresh manure or treated with manure slurry. In the case of acidic soil, lime is added (4 kg per 1 cubic meter). The disinfection process takes two to three years. During this time, the soil should be turned over once a year and regularly weeded to prevent weed seeding.

Thermal method. A small amount of soil for seedlings in seed boxes and pots is disinfected by heating on an iron sheet or tray. Before heating, the soil is thoroughly moistened, and during the heating process, it is constantly stirred to avoid overheating. The soil can also be disinfected by pouring boiling water over it twice.

Chemical method. Disinfection of soil with bleaching powder effectively combats most disease-causing agents, including cabbage keel. Bleaching powder is used in dry form at a rate of 100–200 g per 1 square meter of soil with a 20 cm layer, raking it in. Disinfection is recommended to be done in advance, in the fall, as the application of bleaching powder shortly before sowing can negatively affect the plants.
