Purposeful Rest Proves Beneficial for the Brain and Body

Complete absence of tasks and obligations can play an important role in maintaining health. This was stated by biomedic M. Trillo in an interview with the publication 20minutos.

According to the specialist, the modern pace of life has conditioned people to strive for maximum efficiency. Many try to plan their day in advance so that every minute is occupied with productive activities. As a result, the brain hardly gets any time for a state of rest, when there is no need to solve problems, socialize, or perform work duties.

However, as Trillo emphasized, periods of inactivity are just as significant for the body as active pursuits. It is during these moments that the body has the opportunity for complete recovery. Rest from physical exertion, social engagement, and mental strain creates conditions under which internal restorative processes are activated.

The expert noted that during such rest, deoxyribonucleic acid participates in correcting mutations accumulated throughout the day. Meanwhile, constant overload and chronic stress arising from continuous activity can eventually lead to both physical and mental disorders.

Previously, Dr. A. Kovalenko also highlighted the importance of regular rest. He recommended that office workers allocate two to three hours a day for recovery, while those engaged in physical labor should take one to two hours.
