Causes of Myopia and Hyperopia

As a result of changes in the size of the eyeball.

Myopia is characterized by poor vision at long distances, as the image is focused not on the retina, but in front of it. In the case of hyperopia, the image is located behind the retina, making it difficult to perceive objects up close.

In young people, hyperopia can occur due to a reduced size of the eyeball. Age-related hyperopia, known as presbyopia, develops as a result of aging of the lens and weakening of the ciliary muscle. As a result, the eyes of many people over 45 years old begin to improperly focus the image on the retina.

Myopia is usually a consequence of an enlarged eyeball. Its development is often associated with hereditary factors. A person with moderate myopia does not become hyperopic with age due to changes in the lens and continues to see well up close.
